M&C // A winter castle wedding

A big congratulations to Melissa & Conor who tied the knot just before Christmas with a lovely wedding day surrounded by family and ‘friends’ at their winter castle wedding in the Donegal Countryside. The couple are fans of the hit TV series Friends and there were loads of little personal touches throughout the day incorporating this!

Bride Melissa Sweeney got ready at the family home at Gortnacorrib near Letterkenny in Co Donegal and sisters Julie and Marie were bridesmaids. Hair & Makeup was by Aoibheann Walsh. The beautiful wedding dress was from McElhinneys Bridal and other complementary items from Lace and Flavour. Flowers were from Bernie’s Blooms.

Groom Conor Ferry was getting ready at Tullybeg near Ramelton a short drive from Melissa’s home. Shane Ferry was bestman and Ryan Ferry was groomsman. Once ready the boys and family all headed for the church at Dunlewey.

At Dunlewey Fr James Gillespie was getting the church ready for the 12pm ceremony. A great idea during these winter month’s is to opt for this earlier ceremony time as it will ensure light for the photoshoots and any travelling to the reception. Photographer for the day was Sarah Bryden and it was lovely to work with Sarah for the first time.

The lovely church music was by the grooms sister Tara and cousin Lisa. Readings were by the bride’s brothers and the reflection was read by Conor’s mum – this all made for a lovely personalised feel to the ceremony with so many of the close family playing a part.

Once the  vows and rings were exchanged and the ceremony completed it was straight to Lough Eske Castle outside Donegal Town. A castle was built here first in the 1400’s and has gone through many restorations and rebuilds since and now the impressive Lough Eske Castle Hotel is one of the most popular destinations in Ireland. The Speeches were before the meal and once everyone enjoyed their delicious meal the Goodfellas band were ready to go.

It was straight into the party and the evening part of the celebrations.
